Dr. Manish Kumar Dhiraj is a highly qualified and skilled Neurosurgeon with a vast experience of managing complicated brain and spinal tumors, infectious diseases, vascular lesions, endoscopic and microscopic pituitary surgery apart from management of traumatic brain and spine surgery and pediatric neurosurgery backed by more than thousands of surgical procedures performed. He did his MBBS from The Prestigious Maulana Azad Medical College (1997 batch). Aspiring to be a Surgeon he did hid MS General Surgery from University College of Medical Sciences & Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital (2004 - 2007). He did his Senior Residency in Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, Delhi (2007 - 2008) and Later MCh Neurosurgery from Bangur Institute of Neurosciences & sskm Hospital under Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education & Research in Kolkata (2008 - 2011). With the aim of serving his Motherland and developing Neurosurgery in his Hometown Darbhanga; Dr. Manish Dhiraj returned back. He started his Neurosurgery practice in North Bihar region. Realizing acute lack of infrastructure for superspeciality care in tier 2 cities of Bihar, he developed Adya Neuro Care Hospital with financial aid in the form of loans from State Bank of India & HDFC Bank. Dr. Manish Dhiraj was the first Neurosurgeon to start Neurosurgery in Darbhanga and Adya Neuro Care Hospital became the first Hospital of it's kind in providing Neurosurgical care in North Bihar region. Dr. Dhiraj also worked in different prestigious Hospitals of The Country like Naraayana Hospital Jessore Road Kolkata, Accord Hospital Faridabad, ESIC Medical College & Hospital Faridabad (as adjunct faculty in Neurosurgery), Batra Heart & Multispeciality Hospital in Faridabad and Paras HEC Hospital Ranchi. He did his Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Brain & Spine Surgery and Fellowship in Endoscopic Spine Surgery under Neuro Spinal Surgeon's Association in Aditya Superspeciality Hospital, Jabalpur. At present Dr. Manish Kumar Dhiraj is providing his services as a Senior Neurosurgeon in Patna & Darbhanga and other remote areas of North Bihar through Telemedicine. He has 15 years of experience in the field of Neurosurgery. It is essential to embrace modern technology for advancement of Neurosurgery and to increase its reach in remote areas of The Country. Advanced Neurosurgery Tools like Operating Microscope, Neuronavigation, Intra Operative Ultrasound, Intra Operative Neuro Monitoring, C Arm Image intensifier and many other tools, help in making advanced Neurosurgery safer and doing complicated Surgeries. A GLIMPSE OF DISEASES & TREATMENT IN NEUROSURGICAL PRACTICE
BRAIN & SPINAL TUMOURS -
These are complex diseases which arise due to abnormal and unchecked cell division, giving rises to abnormal growth of tissue. The symptoms depend upon site and size of lesion. Mostly these tumorous lesions are benign and amenable to surgical excision. It includes the pituitary and skull base tumors also. They are liable for recurrence depending upon their nature (Benign vs Malignant and WHO Grade). They may need Radiotherapy or Chemotherapy or both.
Degenerative Spine Diseases -
As the description suggests these are diseases are related to ageing process of the body. Typically they include cervical and lumbar spondylosis and disk diseases. Many of these disease conditions are dealt with medical management of symptoms and lifestyle modifications. But few of these conditions need surgical treatment. Endoscopic surgery is also available currently to deal with these conditions.
Traumatic Brain & Spinal Injury -
Trauma due to road traffic accidents, falls at home, assaults, sports related injury etc. results in different kinds of injuries to brain and spine ranging from mild to severe. Most of the injuries are treated by conservative supportive treatment, however sometimes surgical intervention may be needed in case of a large hematoma or maas effect due to edema or fractures and neurological deficit.
Congenital Diseases & Pediatric Neurosurgery -
Many Diseases occur due to genetic reasons in utero which may present with symptoms either at birth or later in life depending upon the nature and progression of disease. For example - Congenital Hydrocephalous, Chiari Malformation, Meningocele, Encephalocele, Spit Cord Malformation, Tethered Cord Syndrome etc. These spectra of diseases often require surgical intervention.
Infectious Lesions -
Many a times if an infectious disease presents with pus formation like brain abscess or Pott's Spine, it needs surgical evacuation of the lesion. Sometimes surgery is needed due to sequelae of an infectious lesion such as - obstructive hydrocephalous after Tubercular Meningitis.
Vascular Lesions -
Lesions involving blood vessels of the nervous system like Arteriovenous Malformation, Aneurysm may lead to rupture and hemorrhage leading to life threatening emergencies needing emergency surgical intervention. Endovascular treatment options may also be offered depending upon the site, size and severity of patient condition.
Functional Neurosurgery -
Surgical treatment options like deep brain stimulation for movement disorders, lesionectomy for Refractory Epilepsy are available today. Stereotactic Radiosurgery for neoplastic and vascular lesions can be done in advanced centers. Stereotactic focused ultrasound is also available for movement disorders today.
